Rights and Responsibilities
Italian citizens enjoy freedom of movement within the European Union, the right to vote and run for office, access to public healthcare and education and the ability to pass citizenship to children. A passport allows visaโfree travel to many countries.
Citizens must obey Italian laws, pay taxes and, for men born before 1986, may still be subject to conscription. Civic responsibilities include participating in public life and upholding the values of the Italian Constitution.
