Language and Test
Adults aged 18–54 must show speaking and listening skills in English or French at CLB 4 or higher. Evidence may include language test results, school transcripts or other official documents. Some applicants with disabilities or older than 55 may be exempt.
The citizenship test is a 20‑question multiple‑choice exam on Canada’s history, government, geography, economy and symbols. You typically need at least 15 correct answers to pass. The test is offered in English or French and usually lasts less than an hour. After the test you may have a short interview with an officer to verify your documents and assess your language ability.
