Language and Integration Requirements
To naturalise you must demonstrate that you can speak and write French to at least B1 level. This is usually proven through a recognised test such as the TCF or TEF, or by presenting a diploma from a French‑language school.
There is no formal multiple‑choice citizenship test like in some countries, but the prefecture will conduct an interview to assess your assimilation into French society. You will be asked about France’s history, culture, secularism and your adherence to the rights and duties set out in the French constitution.
